Student safety continues to guide every decision we make.
Starting today, additional staff will be present at Simpson & Viking Blvd and Warren & Viking Blvd to help ensure students arrive safely. Staff will also be present at the intersection of 9th & Wheat before and after school.
Students are encouraged to walk or bike north on Wheat Street and turn right on Warren Avenue for a safer trip. Families are also encouraged to review the Safe Routes to School reference guide for helpful tips and route information.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe!

Make sure to mark these important dates on your calendar:
🔹 April 3 : NO SCHOOL (district office closed)
🔹 April 6 : NO SCHOOL / Professional Development
🔹 April 13 & 29 : Board of Education Meetings

As we begin our state assessments tomorrow in the building, we want to provide you with important information that can help your students be as successful as possible. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and growth over the year. As an incentive, the USD 465 Board of Education is once again offering an incentive to students to do their best on the tests:
For the 2026-27 school year, the state assessment goals would increase by 5% from this year's levels.
6th Grade Goals 7th Grade Goals 8th Grade Goals
Math Goal = 68% Math Goal = 75% Math Goal = 50%
ELA Goal = 75% ELA Goal = 68% ELA Goal = 58%
If a grade level meets one of the goals, there would be a ½-day release.
If a grade level meets both goals, then there would be a full-day release.
Testing schedule:
7th ELA - March 25 & 26
8th ELA - March 30 & 31
6th ELA - April 1 & 2
8th Science - April 7 & 9 (odd classes)
8th Science - April 8 & 10 (even classes)
6th, 7th, 8th Math - April 14 & 16 (odd classes)
6th, 7th, 8th Math - April 15 & 17 (even classes)
To allow time for testing during the school day for science and math, April 7 through April 17 will be block-schedule days, with students attending even and odd periods every other day. This does not change the start or end times for the day; it's still 8:00 AM - 3:35 PM.
One of the most important ways you can support your child is by helping them maintain healthy routines during this time. Parents should encourage their students to get a full night’s sleep each evening, as proper rest helps with focus, memory, and overall performance. Please ensure your student arrives at school with a fully charged device. Also, starting the day with a nutritious breakfast can significantly improve energy levels and concentration.
We also encourage students to arrive at school on time and with a positive attitude. A calm, confident approach can go a long way in helping them do their best!!
The middle school was placed in a Hold In Place status, and students were kept in classrooms for a short time. The situation was resolved, and the school was moved back to a normal status.
USD 465 will be closed Friday, March 13 for Report & Record Day, and Spring Break begins next week. We look forward to welcoming students back on March 23. Have a safe and relaxing break!

Thank you

WMS and WHS would like to share an exciting update regarding the BOE incentive for student performance on the Kansas State Assessments that was approved last year. The goal for the upper grades (7-11) was to increase the percentage of students scoring in Tiers 2–4 by 5% in both ELA and Math. The incentives are for the state tests taken last year, but we did not receive the results until this year. (For example, this year's 8th graders are being incentivized for test results taken as 7th graders). This year's 6th graders fell just short of goals set by elementary schools.
Our current 7th and 8th-grade students met the goals, with the 8th grade exceeding the goal in BOTH math and reading. Congratulations to those students for their hard work and effort!
The incentive day for WMS and WHS will take place on Thursday, March 12th.
6th, 10th, and 12th grades will follow a regular schedule for the day. The 7th-, 9th-, and 11th-graders will attend classes until 11:30 AM, and the 8th-graders will not attend classes that day.
This incentive recognizes the efforts of the grade levels that met their goals and encourages continued focus on doing their best on state assessments.
